Andante moderato from Symphony No. 6, for Bass recorder doubling Alto, Tenor and Soprano
from: G. Mahler (1860-1911)
In original key of Eb major. There is conflicting evidence as to whether Mahler meant this to be the 2nd or the 3rd movement of the symphony. There are some optional high F#’s for both alto and bass, and optional low E for alto and low B for soprano. The original dynamics, slurs and articulations are indicated, but of course there is a limit to how faithfully a recorder can perform them, especially the dynamics. They are included mainly so that the composer’s original intent is transmitted, and the best possible recorderistic solution found.
